Panchāngams are published in India by many learned authors, societies, academies, and universities. Different publications differ only minutely, at least for a casual or un-trained reader. They forecast celestial phenomena such as solar eclipses, forecast weather (rain, dryspells) as well as more mundane occurrences.
In respect of any auspiscious occasion that is being undertaken, any Hindu family will consult a Panchanga/Astrologer, who in turn consult a Panchanga. Tithi, Nakshatra, Vaara (week day), Yoga, and Karana will be mentioned for fixing a muhUrtha by astrologers.
Some Panchangas will give auspicious day for undertaking journeys also, taking Nakshatra and Week day into consideration.
Even before performing any daily Puja also, any Hindu family will perform a Sankalpa, which will also use Tithi, Nakshatra, Vaara (week day), Yoga, and Karana.
